It's quite easy for someone to take your text and claim it as your own nowadays, but there are ways of preventing that. If you want to protect your work, you can use PDF Freeze to lock down your PDFs. The application prevents text copying, printing and editing once it's done with your documents, so you can make sure the contract you send to someone won't be modified without your knowledge or the draft for your new book won't be stolen. It's a quick and simple operation, which doesn't require any advanced knowledge or skills.

PDF Freeze comes in free and paid editions, the latter of which has a few more options. Downloading and installing the application shouldn't take more than a minute, even on slower machines. There are no special requirements to meet, and you don't have to worry about its hardware usage.

Loading a PDF onto the application's compact user interface and clicking a button is sufficient to freeze your file. Additionally, you can choose between various output quality levels, from "Very Low" to "Best", but you can also set a custom DPI if you want to. The actions you want to prohibit are displayed in the lower part of the interface, and you only need to click their checkboxes to include them.

As previously mentioned, the application can prohibit copying, editing and printing. This means that when someone opens your document, they won't even be able to select the text in your document, and the printing button will be greyed out. The software uses heavy encryption to keep your restrictions in place, and it lets you choose between several algorithms, including 256-bit AES. What's more, you can set the application to use the same algorithm as the original, if the file is already encrypted or you can encrypt it again with a different cipher.

A few seconds is all it takes to protect your documents against any unwanted modifications, thanks to PDF Freeze's straightforward functionality.

Pros

You can make your PDFs impossible to edit and print. The software makes use of various encryption algorithms to enforce your restrictions. It takes only a few seconds to freeze a document.

Cons

A few options are not available in the free version.
